Today I appointed Vice Chancellor Keith Champagne to serve as athletics director for ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½. Champagne will take over for Sterling Steward, who stepped down from his position earlier today. Dr. Champagne will continue in his role as vice chancellor for student affairs, a role that is consistent with his new duties leading the Alaska Nanooks athletics program.
This change is more than one of titles. It marks a move to further integrate athletics into the university community and a renewed focus on fundraising, marketing and community engagement.
In addition to Vice Chancellor Champagne’s experience in student affairs, he has a solid background in athletics. His doctoral work focused on intercollegiate athletics leadership and sports management, and he is a graduate of the prestigious Sports Management Institute. Prior to joining the leadership team at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½, he served as chief diversity officer for intercollegiate athletics at Central Washington University.
I am confident that under his leadership ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ athletics will grow. I look forward to working with Dr. Champagne to establish a solid foundation and vibrant future for ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ athletics.

Sincerely, Dan White, chancellor
