CCHRC housing was a collaboration between the ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Office of Sustainability and the nonprofit . Their use as student housing through ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Residence Life was discontinued in fall 2019.

Students were involved in designing and building the village of four 1,600-square-foot, four-bedroom homes on ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ property near the CCHRC headquarters.

Each house has a unique combination of wall assembly, foundation and heating and ventilation systems. Researchers with the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, who now occupy the CCHRC building, monitor each home for energy consumption, electricity use, indoor air quality and ground temperature.
